About Our Translation Process
First and foremost, as a fan translation group, we made the decision to do edited MTLs for speed and efficiency in translating. As much as we would like to human translate every single word of each volume, it is simply not feasible for us to do so and meet the expected deadlines for each community. Regardless, we have several Japanese Translators (N3-N1) on our team who ensure accuracy and the highest quality translations possible for each and every volume.
1. Obtain Raws
We purchase the Japanese raws directly from publishers. This ensures high-quality source material and supports the original authors.
2. OCR/Extraction
After securing raws, we extract text. Digital extraction is often automated; physical raws require scanning and OCR. Custom scripts streamline this for both formats, minimizing errors.
3. Preprocessing
Crucial for successful translation, preprocessing converts ambiguous or automatable elements like punctuation and names (e.g., replacing character names with English equivalents). This reduces LLM confusion and ensures consistency.
4. Translation
We use a customized LLM client with structured prompts to minimize hallucinations and maintain source fidelity. Combined with preprocessing, this ensures efficient, accurate, and nuanced translations.
5. Postprocessing
This cleanup phase uses automated routines to correct formatting, spelling, and other translation artifacts, significantly improving readability and polish before editing.
6. Multi-pass Editing and JE-checking
Our flexible, unstructured editing involves smaller groups reviewing for elements like flow, consistency, and readability. JE-checking by Japanese Translators ensures that accuracy and nuances are preserved.
7. Proofread
Post-editing, a focused proofreading stage catches any remaining typos, awkward phrasing, or missed edits from the finalized draft.
8. Publish
After proofreading and quality checks, we publish. This includes final internal checks, packaging, and formatting, completing the translation cycle.
